Under what circumstances should ammonium sulfate not be used? Five taboos for the use of ammonium sulfate.

Ammonium sulfate is an excellent nitrogen fertilizer (commonly known as fertiliser powder), suitable for general soil and crops. It can make branches and leaves grow vigorously, improve fruit quality and yield, and enhance crop resistance to disasters. It can be used as base fertilizer, top dressing and seed fertilizer.

1. Try not to use ammonium sulfate in paddy fields.

Because under flooding conditions, the soil will be severely hypoxic. After ammonium sulfate is applied, the sulfate ions in it will be reduced to sulfides. Excessive accumulation of sulfide concentration can damage plant roots and die.

2. Ammonium sulfate is an acid fertilizer. Long-term application can increase the acidity of the soil. Therefore, ammonium sulfate is not suitable for application on acid soil.

When applying it on acidic soils in the south, attention should be paid to the application of plant ash, phosphate rock powder, calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer, etc. When applied to calcareous soil in the north, in order to prevent calcium ions in the soil from combining with sulfate radicals to form insoluble calcium sulfate, causing soil compaction, attention should be paid to the application of organic fertilizers.

3. Ammonium sulfate can be used as base fertilizer, seed fertilizer and top dressing.

When making the base fertilizer, the soil should be applied deeply to facilitate the absorption of the crops. When planting fertilizer, the application amount should not be too large, and the control should not exceed 3 kg per mu. Topdressing is the most suitable method of application, and the amount of topdressing ammonium sulfate should be determined according to different soil types. For soils with poor water and fertilizer retention properties, topdressing should be done in stages, and the dosage should not be too much each time; for soils with good water retention and fertilizer retention properties, the dosage can be more appropriate each time. The amount of soil moisture also has a greater impact on fertilizer efficiency, especially in dry land. When applying ammonium sulfate, you must pay attention to watering in time. When topdressing in the paddy field, it should be drained and dried first, and attention should be paid to the simultaneous application of the ploughing harrow.

4. It is not suitable to apply ammonium sulfate on the same farmland for a long time

It is not advisable to apply ammonium sulfate on the same farmland for a long time, otherwise the soil will become acidic and cause compaction. If it is necessary to apply it, some lime or organic fertilizer can be applied in an appropriate amount. However, it must be noted that ammonium sulfate and lime cannot be mixed to prevent the decomposition of ammonium sulfate and cause nitrogen loss. Generally, the combined application of the two should be separated by 3 to 5 days.

5. Do not contact or mix ammonium sulfate with other alkaline fertilizers or substances

Ammonium sulfate fertilizer cannot be contacted or mixed with other alkaline fertilizers or alkaline substances to prevent reducing fertilizer efficiency.
